Maryam Dates History
Piarom date, which people also call Maryam date or chocolate date, has a unique taste and appearance. Experts consider it one of the most luxurious and expensive dates, and farmers produce it exclusively in Hajiabad, Hormozgan.
They grow these dates in Hajiabad city, the northernmost district of Hormozgan province in southern Iran. Haji Abad city lies 100 kilometers north of Bandar Abbas, the capital of Hormozgan province, and it is famous for citrus production.
It is important to note that Hormozgan province produces 40 types of dates. The most cultivated areas in this province grow Piarom, Mordar Sang, Zard, and Al-Mahtri dates. Piarom dates are an exclusive product of Haji Abad groves. Farmers produce them only in this area using entirely organic methods, and they do not use any chemicals in the process.
About planting and harvesting
Farmers produce the majority of these dates in Hajiabad, Hormozgan province, where they grow on palm trees along mountain slopes. Annually, Iran produces approximately 1 million tons of dates, including 400 varieties, and exports 50 of these worldwide.
Although Piarom dates dominate Iran’s annual date exports, they were originally sold domestically. However, due to increased production in recent years, they have become a key player in global exports.
